Meet the Trainer

Dru Therrian brings a strong commitment to developing an enjoyable, low stress relationship during and after training for both dogs and their owners. Her desire is to build obedience and by doing so solve any behavior problems. Dru helps them understand how to live together “bridging the gap” of communication between owners and their dogs.

Prior to making her home in Ohio, Dru lived throughout the Midwest in Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin and New York.

She began building her impressive skill set 25 years ago when she attended the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. There she was a national collegiate diving champion. Continuing her education, Dru graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biology from St. Mary of the Woods College in Indiana. While at St. Mary, Dru was part of the equestrienne team and spent most of her free time caring for horses. From her years in the pool and on horseback, she brings energy, enthusiasm, understanding of animal behavior and fun to her interaction with dogs and clients.

Dru is a skilled teacher with a number of years experience in both substitute teaching and coaching through the Chardon Local Schools, and has the ability to demonstrate her training skills from the experience of being past rubber stamp company business owner.

Knowing that “Dogs are Dogs”: naturally inclined to bark, jump and pull, Dru, along with her own canine pal, Daisy take basic training learning to different levels based on the clients' desires. One-on-One programs are tailored to fit the needs, goals, and desires of the individual client. Dru understands that every household is unique and she works hard to target problem areas and foster future growth.  Working closely with each owner and dog, Dru explains, teaches and guides the learning to build a better relationship.

Married for 28 years and the mother of three, Dru remains involved in her community.
Dru can be seen working the client’s dog regularly along the neighborhood streets in Chardon. Socialization turns into daily life as they meet and greet people, helping the dogs learn how to be mannerly in public as well as at home. Training is culminated as the dog becomes the family companion that is so desired.

Always looking to expand her knowledge base and achieve her goal of developing well balanced family dogs, Dru chose National K9 in Columbus, Ohio to train and obtain her initial certification.  National K9 is the oldest school for professional dog trainers and carries with it an impressive reputation.

Dru continues to pursue hands-on education and has studied with Marc Goldberg of Chicagoland Boarding School for Dogs, Robin MacFarlane of That’s My Dog and Fred Hassen of Sit Means Sit.

She is an Professional member of IACP, International Association of Canine Professionals. Dru has earned the IACP CDT: Certified Dog Trainer. She is the contact for the newly formed Lake Erie Regional Group,  and belongs to the NK9DTA, National K9 Dog Trainers Association.

Dru is a Canine Good Citizen Evaluator which is certified through the AKC.
